A story about the magpie first, I think it has a bad press, only because we have had a family of magpies for the last few years, they are wonderful parents, this year there are 3 chicks and the parents visit every day with the chicks, they teach them how to feed, how to take water and how to bathe in the bird baths we have.
What I didn't know and only recently found out was that, (this is from the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds) "They fledge after 26 to 30 days, and are fed by the parents for a further four weeks after leaving the nest. The young birds stay in the parents' territory until September or October, when they form loose flocks, feeding and roosting together."
They have a fluorescent black & blue wings and tail and shine in the sunlight, I tried to copy that shine with a little clear sparkle pen, shame you can't see it.
Here is one of the chicks today, the others flew away as I went to take the photo, as always!
OK! I'm boring you now, onto my card, I hope it's CAS enough.

Wonderful card Faith, your colouring of the magpies is fabulous, great design.
ReplyDeleteThank you for passing on that little bit of knowledge about the magpies and their young, I didn't know any of that, Kate x x
Thank you, Faith for more info about the magpie.
ReplyDeleteYour card is beautiful, great stamping!!!
Beautiful monochrome card and love the magpies -we don't realise what good parents birds and I suppose most animals are better than some humans from what has been in the news recently -dumb animals aye wonder who came up with that phrase!!!

Super card, Faith and a great take on the sketch. Great stamping too. We get a lot of magpies here. I remember when a local cat caught one in a neighbour's garden. Literally dozens and dozens of magpies flew above the cat flapping wildly and making the most terrifying noise to try and scare the cat. I'd never seen anything like it - it was like being in the Hitchcock film, The Birds! xx
ReplyDeleteYay for stamping, Faith! You've made a great card! However...
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion Magpies deserve their bad press...and more! Yes, they're lovely birds - to LOOK at! I do enjoy the blue/black fluorescent nature of their wings. BUT when I see a Magpie get onto the birdhouse that is home to another bird's babies, pop his head into said birdhouse, and fly off with said baby in his mouth...ACK!!! He is not a friend to me and is not welcome in my yard! Never mind the horrible racket he makes! I could go on...but I won't. I like Magpies - 4 and twenty baked in a pie! haha Or stamped on a lovely card! :o)
Beautiful card! Thanks for joining us at Freshly Made Sketches!
ReplyDeleteWonderful card Faith and very interesting info on the bird.

Absolutely wonderful, Faith! I love it! We have a baby magpie hanging around the garden at the moment. He looks much like his mum and dad, but isn't confident enough to try some of the bird feeders. The woodpigeons and squirrel spook him a bit too. Sorry I haven't been over in a while. looking forward to catching up on all your posts xxx
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing some tidbits about the birds...so interesting and your card is so stylish
