Here it is.
The orchid spurred me into action, I have had a digital die file for quite a while and have been trying to get floristry wire and tape to make it. Last week I finally bought them after lockdown.
The file was quite daunting, but had good instructions, I cut all the pieces out, actually cut more than I needed, but they were all used in the end. I put them all in sizes on my desk and that was it, I got too afraid to start! Yep! how silly is that?
Anyhow next day I inked the edges of each flower and buds and the leaves as a starter. I read the instructions and started putting it all together, in the end it wasn't as bad as I thought, why do I get overwhelmed like that? They say face the fear, I did and it has worked out well and I like it! It took a few hours with great concentration, well I am getting older! Here's the result although for some reason the inking of the leaves can't be seen, the flowers are not much better, I really don't know why, unless it was the light I took it in, (not good!) they look great in real life. It's 15 inches high.
I tell you what those flower centres are tiny!
the wonky flower open bud has been corrected.

Absolutely stunning Faith, I doubt I would have had your patience. Well done on reviving the real thing too xx
ReplyDeleteTwo fabulous flowers Faith, your Orchid is beautiful - like you I had several bad experiences with them but then I was given one when I had an operation and it lasted for about five years, it flowered over and over before eventually giving up.
ReplyDeleteYour paper flower is beautiful, it looks like it was lots of hard work but well worth the effort.

That is so amazing! No wonder you took your time to get to it!! I'd still be staring at the box! Beautiful orchid too.
ReplyDeleteFaith this is amazing and so creative. So worth the time and effort x.
ReplyDeleteWell done you with the real orchid and like you I have never been able to keep my orchid's alive...so congratulations x.
Wow, your orchid is amazing. Love it.
ReplyDeleteI think they are lovely faith. My fingers don't do so well with such fiddly things these days.
ReplyDeleteAnd the orchid is beautiful. I have zero success with them, and I have tried several times. Your picture took me straight back to a very special three months we spent travelling around E.Asia. In Thailand we unexpectedly walked into an orchid festival and every shop had a huge display of birds, animals, buildings and people, all made from various orchid flowers. It was almost too much to take in.
I am glad you found the inner mojo to tackle the plant. It is really good! Kate x
WOW stunningly impressive must have taken some patience-brilliant-I have this one too which flowers sparingly and a pale peach one that is laden my son bought me them a few years ago

ReplyDeleteYou have the patience of a saint and this is a gorgeous creation! The real orchid is beautiful and well worth all the love you put into making it bloom, but this created pot is just amazing! Well done!
ReplyDeleteOh my Faith your paper orchid is just so beautiful, and well done in keeping the real thing going, I am hopeless with plants and I've been trying to keep an orchid my son gave me a year or so ago, I'm hoping I'll get more blooms this ear, Kate x
ReplyDeleteOh wow Faith! This is absolutely incredible! Well done for being brave enough to stick with the project. It turned out beautifully! Congratulations on your flowering orchid too! It's gorgeous! Thanks for sharing your fabulous project with us at Penny's!

OH MY WORD!!! this is totally stunning, Faith.
ReplyDeleteYou have outdone yourself. A gorgeous paper plant and so big.
Love it!
I love orchids and never trow them away! At my work they do, but i take them home and my DH nurtures them and we have lots staying around now.
Oh, Faith, I'm so glad you finally had a positive experience with the orchid. It only takes once and then you're hooked for life. :-D Beautiful work on your die cut flowers! I know how time consuming that must have been but you've done such a splendid job of it. Love the pink and green combo.
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a gorgeous project! You have way more ambition than I do! LOL
ReplyDeleteI have several orchid plants. Once they dry out too much, the blooms fall off and that is it for the flowers. However, if you cut back the stem, in about 6-7 months, you will get a "rebirth". I had to learn the hard way to not overwater. I don't water until all the orchid mix feels dry when I stick my finger in. Have fun with your orchid..............you will probably want more! I did!!
Hugs!

I'm totally in awe of your orchid project & your real orchid! I thought mine was doing well, but then I saw one of the spikes turned brown, so cut it off. Thought the other was about to bloom & then it turned brown. So I cut it off & now we'll see what happens. It does have a new leaf growing like crazy, so it's not dead.
