Anyway, I designed it in Silhouette design space with flowers that I have in my files, and now can't find! I traced the outline of one of the flowers and added them to the vase with her name and wishes. I then cut it out on the Cameo as a stencil with Oracal 651 vinyl.
After it was all etched and washed off I saw I had made a few errors grrr. They were quite large, so it was do I throw it away OR rescue it? I decided to try and rescue it. I added butterfly shapes to the marked areas, I'm so pleased I made the errors as I prefer them on it. This was difficult to do because of the rounded shape and I think that's how I had large "splot" areas marked. The black spot is a label saying the glass is hand made.
The etching is so difficult to photograph, this the best I could do.
Of course I had to make a box for it too,
it's made from Navy card and Craft Sensations card pack.
Shame is I am nearly at the end of the pack now, I hate when that happens.
I used the shape cut out for the stencil to add to my Cameo and the little bin which holds my WRMK foil pens, win all around methinks.
I thought I would add a few piccies that were taken near us,
it was the result of storm Dennis!
After the water had gone down!
Even the geese have no where to go!
this area hadn't been flooded before, at least not that I remember.
Thankfully just mess left on the main road.
Left behind debris
Shows the strength of the water!
debris left behind on the canal viaduct, there are bridges under the water!
This is beautiful Faith, such an intricate and pretty design and a lovely box to place it in - a wonderful gift for your friend.

Dennis was here too, but not as bad as I see on your pictures. Hope youndid not get any wet feet at your house.
Stay safe,
Your retirement etching looks fabulous Faith! A happy boo boo because I am loving the butterflies on it too. So glad you didn't trash this lovely vase. A win win with decorating your machine and little trash bin. Love it too! Oh my, these photo's look like photo's we are seeing from down in the south from all the rains. Heartbreaking for sure. Keeping everyone in my prayers. Hugs, Brenda
ReplyDeleteWhat a fabulous etched glass Faith! Absolutely stunning and a gorgeous box too. Looks like your area of the country were badly affected by the storm. Although it was wet and rainy here, it was nothing compared to other parts of the country. xx
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful project - great job as always.
ReplyDeleteYour etched glass is amazing. I love that you made a box for it, too. Very creative. Sorry to see the mess that Dennis left behind. I am glad it was not worse and that you all are okay.
ReplyDeleteYour etching is gorgeous and I'm sure that your coworker will love it. It is amazing what all the rain/water can do. We have had a mess with that the past two summers too. I had to snow blow before I could get into my driveway today after work.
ReplyDeleteIt’s a beautiful gift Faith. I think we got off pretty lightly from the recent storms thank goodness. Later today we are going away on holiday for a couple of weeks and really looking forward to some nice warm sunshine.
ReplyDeleteFaith, your glass etching is amazing! What a beautiful retirement present for your colleague. Storm Dennis has been a right hooligan, hasn't he? More seriously, there will be an awful lot of cleaning up to be done, quite apart from the damage to people's homes. It's heartbreaking. I hope this is the last bad storm we see! Stay warm and dry!

ps 'fussy cutting' is basically what we used to call 'cutting out'-it's an American phrase, I think, but I think it sums up cutting out images rather well!!! x
Hi Faith, your vase is gorgeous, and what happy accidents to make you do butterflies. I'm sure when your friend receives it she will be delighted with it.
ReplyDeleteWhat awful devastation these storms have had, it's heartbreaking for folks and I'm afraid that many elderly people will not be able to come back from it.
Thanks for sharing your photos, Kate x
What a wonderful gift, glad your safe from Storm Dennis. My daughters flats car park flooded although she hasn't a major problem being on the first floor but I nearly got a lodger.

That was quite the storm! So glad you didn't have major flooding, Faith! The etching is so gorgeous! Would have loved to get that when I retired--haha! The box is a keepsake, too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful keepsake for your retiring colleague Faith. These etched glasses that you've been making have really impressed me and the boxes you make for them create a really beautiful gift. I feel so sad for the poor people that have been flooded all over the UK. I was listening to a radio programme which explained that people that live in these flood areas are on their own after they've been flooded once - insurance companies refuse to insure them. Often they get severe anxiety and start getting panicky at the slightest shower of rain, and if they get flooded repeatedly, they can be bankrupted. And that's on top of the awful experience of being flooded, losing a clean water supply, having your home destroyed and having to live with damp and mould. I'm so glad you are warm and dry Faith. ReplyDeleteI love the addition of the butterflies. The papers you used for the box is just gorgeous! Thanks for sharing all the photos, Faith. We've been hearing a lot about it in our news. :o)
ReplyDeleteThat glass is so elegant. And the box is just as beautiful. When I saw your artwork on the Cameo, I laughed out loud. I need to do that! Love it all. Glad you guys are safe. That storm looks like it was a scary one.
ReplyDeleteThere's clearly no end to your talents Faith. Amazing etching and box etc.
ReplyDeleteWOW - your pictures are astounding. I hope everyone was OK. Were you personally affected?
